Are you planning to honeymoon in the Riviera Maya of Mexico? You could not have picked a more romantic setting to celebrate your newlywed status. Forgive us for bragging, but we have more than our fair share of beautiful beaches here! Let me tell you when you live in the Caribbean the decision of where to spend your days off is not an easy one. (First world problems, right?) So, how does someone without local knowledge decide which beaches are a must-see on their vacation? Where will you get the most magical honeymoon photos to share on your Instagram feed?
Don’t worry. We are here to help. We are experts at sniffing out the best beaches around Cancun for honeymoon photography, and we are happy to share our secrets with you.
Now here’s the tricky thing: All beaches in Mexico are public property, BUT access to them is often through resorts, which are obviously not public. That’s why our list only includes the best beaches that you can actually access (You’re welcome). So without further ado, here is the inside scoop on where we take our clients for honeymoon photography, from Cancun to Tulum.
Playa Delfines In Cancun
Just a hop, skip and a jump from the Cancun airport, Playa Delfines is the first beach on the Hotel Zone Boulevard. There are no towering hotels in the immediate vicinity, which lends a tranquil vibe to the stunning backdrop of ivory sand and turquoise sea. This beautiful stretch of Caribbean paradise has a public car park, and is rarely crowded – double bonus! The beach umbrellas are free, and if you want to try your hand at surfing, you can do that here. What a perfect recipe for amazing photos of your honeymoon in Cancun!

Puerto Morelos Mexico
Puerto Morelos is a quaint little seaside town nestled between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Strolling hand in hand between the vibrant storefronts, you will get a sense of a simpler time in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, before the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya started drawing tourists from far and wide. The main Puerto Morelos beach area is right in front of the town square, and if you head just south of that, you will find the nicest stretch to hang out and spend the day. These beaches are usually pristine and calm for swimming. A perfect spot to snap selfies with the one you love!

Maroma Beach at Punta Maroma
Punta Maroma is only ten minutes north of Playa del Carmen, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city beaches, Maroma beach has been voted one of the best beaches in the world. (Discovery Travel & Living Channel) This piece of Caribbean paradise has everything you need for picture-perfect postcard-worthy honeymoon photos: that pearly white, powder-soft sand meeting a clear turquoise sea. The resorts on this beach respect the natural environment and lend to the feeling of being at one of the Riviera Maya’s best-kept secrets.

Grand Coral Riviera Maya
Just north of Playa del Carmen is an exclusive neighborhood housing the Grand Coral Beach Golf and Spa Resort. After playing a round with your new husband or wife at the Nick Price designed golf course, you should relax at The Grand Coral Beach Club. This club has a private vibe, great restaurant, and you will always find a lounge chair to kick back in. With a tranquil seaside infinity pool to keep you cool, you have everything you need for enviable honeymoon photos in Mexico.

Playacar beach in Playa del Carmen
Playacar is an upscale gated community of residential homes, condos and all-inclusive resorts that rests just south of the madness of Playa del Carmen. The beach here is wide and runs the neighborhood’s entire length. It is accessible by walking south down the beach from the Cozumel ferry terminal in Playa del Carmen. This bustling city beach is lined with dream homes, beachfront condos, and all-inclusive resorts and is an excellent spot to people watch as holidaymakers and snowbirds make their way to and from the city center strolling barefoot on the beach.
Note that the lounge chairs you see are the property of the all-inclusive resorts, and not intended for public use.

Blue Venado Beach Club at Punta Venado Eco Park
Punta Venado is an adventure park just south of Playa del Carmen. It is an area of jungle trails that culminates at a beach club called The Blue Venado. This beach is not your typical opalescent Caribbean paradise, with sand and sea a little rougher than in neighboring areas, but it is still a little slice of heaven all it’s own. If you and your spouse are beach lovers looking for a little adventure, then this is the place. You can go horseback riding, jet skiing, mountain biking, or ATVing. And when you’re done, curl up under a palapa or on a hammock, and sip a nice cold cerveza. How’s that for awesome honeymoon photography opportunities?

Puerto Aventuras Beach
A community of expats and snowbirds, Puerto Aventuras is an upscale neighborhood built on a large marina and has one of the calmest beaches in the Riviera Maya. If you love the idea of soaking and sunning in a shallow sea with your love, then this beach is for you. If you need a little more activity, you can rent paddleboards, or go snorkeling. You can also make use of the Omni Hotel beach bar if you are parched or peckish. This beach has everything you need to make beautiful honeymoon memories.

Xpu-Ha Beach
Xpu-Ha beach has become incredibly popular over the last decade for good reason. This is the kind of beach that has put the Riviera Maya on the global tourism map. Take a lazy stroll along the soft, opalescent sand with the crystal clear Caribbean waves tickling your toes, and it’s easy to understand how a former sleepy secret has morphed into a bustling little bay of beach bars, beach massage tents, chic hotels and glamping. But even with it’s growing popularity, Xpu-Ha still maintains it’s chill vibe and remains one of the prettiest places to take a picture in the Riviera Maya.

Akumal Beach
Akumal Bay beach has almost outgrown itself in recent years, with the influx of tour operators competing for your desire to swim with the turtles. We believe that Akumal is still worth the trip though, just be prepared for large crowds, and try to avoid visiting on a Sunday. After snorkeling hand-in-hand with the big turtles and rays, pack up and head deeper into Akumal to sip margaritas at La Buena Vida Beach Club, a favorite haunt for tourists and locals alike. The unique layout of bar swings, hammocks, and bird’s nest seating makes this an awesome selfie-snapping spot for lovebirds.

Xcacel Beach Riviera Maya
Quick! Squeeze in a day at Xcacel-Xcacelito turtle sanctuary before the whole world finds out about it! Very few beaches in the Riviera Maya remain untouched, but this one gets pretty darn close. This is a protected beach andfreshwaterr cenote, so there are no restaurants, beach clubs, resorts or vendors to be found. This little piece of heaven is best on a calm day when the ocean waves are gentle. Pack everything you need, and enjoy total peace and tranquility. This is the place where you will fall in love with each other all over again. The only problem here is that you will have a hard time convincing your friends your honeymoon photos have no filter.

Paraiso Beach Tulum
Interrupted only by the occasional lazy palm tree, Tulum boasts an endless landscape of wide, powder-soft, ivory sand beaches that melt into a warm turquoise sea. It is Paradise, plain and simple. A honeymoon in the Riviera Maya isn’t complete until you have spent time in Tulum. It is trendy but with a relaxed, bohemian vibe, and is an incredible place to be with the one you love. The beach for public access is just southeast of the Tulum ruins, but you can also choose any beach club that interests you, and spend the day there too. I liked the post… I’ve been thinking about going sightseeing in this region of Cancun! One of the things I like most about this region is the rich places to ride and entertainment and besides these buildings and houses reminds me of many movies… really is a wonderful place to visit in the summer season.
We are glad you enjoyed the article Elias!
