You have likely heard the term before, but maybe you are wondering exactly what is involved with a first look wedding photoshoot, and whether or not it is right for your wedding day!
A first look photoshoot is done with the bride and groom before their wedding ceremony. That’s right, he will see you in your wedding dress before you come down the aisle! Sure, it goes against what many of us envisioned on our wedding day (Think: reducing him to tears with the emotion of watching you float down the aisle to be wed!) But honestly, getting your wedding photos done before doing the deed can be just as romantic, exciting and emotional as the traditional way. And I assure you, it still makes for great wedding pictures too!
It will be up to you and your wedding photographer to create and capture the moment that you and your betrothed first lay eyes on each other on the biggest day of your lives. Make your grand entrance down a long staircase. Have yourselves blindfolded, and then stand back to back until the moment you turn around and see each other. Get creative! Have FUN with it! Following that, you will snap off the wedding pictures together and with your wedding party that would ordinarily be done after the ceremony.
There are many reasons that first look photoshoots are gaining popularity among brides, but I find that here in Mexico, it mainly it comes down to a question of wedding day sunset timing. You might consider a first look photoshoot if:
1. You want to be married at sunset.
This is a big one for tropical destination wedding brides. You want to say ‘I Do’ when the sun is sinking over the horizon, filling the sky with fiery oranges and cotton candy pinks. What could be more romantic? The problem with a sunset wedding ceremony is that there is not any time to shoot pictures afterwards, because it is dark! Solution: first look wedding photoshoot.
2. The resort hasn’t left you much choice.
You might be surprised to know that you are extremely unlikely to be the only couple getting married at your Mexican resort on your wedding day. There could even be a half dozen destination weddings, depending on the size of the resort! Everybody is going to want the golden ceremony time of one to 1.5 hours before sunset. So what happens when your chosen nuptial hour is already taken? If yours has to be later, then a first look photoshoot is for you!
3. You shun the status quo.
If you are getting married in a tropical destination like the Mayan Riviera, you are already a little untraditional. Why not get your wedding pictures out of the way first so that when the deed is done you can head straight into celebrating with your friends and family, rather than being whisked away for a photoshoot? I mean, you are coming here to have FUN, right?
Whatever your reasons, we think that first look photoshoots are a blast, and are worth your consideration.
