The Pros of June weddings in Mexico
Why is June such a popular month to get married? Here in the Riviera Maya, there are some great reasons this is one of our very favorite seasons:
Save money with shoulder-season prices
It may be a popular wedding month, but as the days get warmer back in your hometown and people stop flocking to Mexico to escape the cold, we see tourism dip at this time of the year, and with that so does the demand for hotels.
This is a HUGE advantage for your destination wedding budget!
June is referred to as ‘Shoulder-Season’, or you can think of it as the midway between low season and high season. What this means is that you get a perfect balance of beautiful weather with lower prices. Win-Win!

The advantage of long, sunny days
As we approach the summer solstice, and our days become the longest of the year, you benefit in three ways:
- Who doesn’t want more hours of poolside sunshine when they are on vacation in the tropics?
- The ideal wedding day timeline has your ceremony scheduled 1.5 to 2 hours before sunset. A later sunset just gives you more hours to enjoy your wedding day! Enough said.
- From a wedding photography standpoint, the more daylight the better. While we are rushing against the sunset in winter, in June it’s just the opposite. Everyone can relax because Mr. Sun is on our side.
Bridal veils are a YES!
One of the little known things about beach weddings is that the wind can wreak havoc on the bride’s style. Ocean breezes are romantic and cooling, but seaside gusts can turn your bridal tresses into an 80’s rock concert, and your misbehaving veil will drive you bananas!
The nice thing about June in Riviera Maya, Mexico is that wind settles down, the Kitesurfers pack their bags, and our boho brides can consider style elements that we do not usually advise during winter months.
You can wear your long hair down, or half-up, and you can even wear a long, cathedral veil if that’s your jam!

The Cons of June weddings in Mexico
Obviously, all that glitters isn’t gold. There is no PERFECT month to get married in Riviera Maya, and even though we love June, it does come with its downsides. Here are some things you will want to consider:
June is a popular wedding month
Although June itself is a shoulder-season for travel, it is a very desirable month for destination weddings. If June is your first choice, then we recommend you to BOOK NOW! This includes your wedding venue, and your wedding vendors, like photography and videography.
There will be competition for your preferred wedding date, especially if it is on a weekend. (Yup! Weekends are busier here too!) Also, there will likely be other couples getting married on the same day as you, which is something that you should know about All-Inclusive weddings, and that means the best ceremony slots will get scooped quickly. Trust us, the LAST thing you want is to be saying “I Do!” at 2 or 3pm!
And finally, consider that the Early-Bird gets the Honeymoon Suite.
June is HOT in Mexico!
*Newsflash: Daytime temperatures in the Riviera Maya in June hover in the low to mid 30’s (celsius) which is wonderful if you are frolicking in the surf in your bathing suit, but not super awesome when you are wrapped up in layers of wedding finery. This is a month when you want to choose what to wear to your beach wedding very carefully. When deciding what to wear stick to natural fabrics, like linen, silk, chiffon, and cotton.
You should also pack your Beach Wedding Emergency Kit with appropriate sweat-wicking items. And aim for a ceremony time between 5pm and 6pm to avoid the hottest hours of the afternoon.
June is Rainy-Season in the Caribbean
The official hurricane season every year runs from April 1st through the end of October. Although June is not a major hurricane time (that comes a few months later) you can expect that it will rain at some point during your holiday. You’ll find the days muggy, and the nights sticky.
The nervous bride will watch the Cancun weather forecast in fear because every day will likely show scattered thundershowers. Check out some unbiased weather feedback here on Tripadvisor.
But don’t panic!
Generally speaking, it might rain at some point during the day, somewhere in the Riviera Maya. And when it comes, it is usually fast and furious, passing quickly.
Read our Brides’ Guide to a Rainy Beach Wedding for more details, and as you are choosing between wedding venues, please make sure to familiarize yourself with their ‘Plan B’ for rain.
