Christine and Kam are Fun In the Sun Weddings’ newest newlyweds! This bride and groom come from different ethnic backgrounds, which resulted in a unique beach wedding blending traditions and cultures.
Here is their story…
How They Met
Christine and Kam met on Tinder. They both swiped right because they liked what they saw, and then Christine quickly learned that Kam was also wise and kind.
Still, Christine was cautious when agreeing to their first date. They planned to go for coffee, but instead of meeting at the coffee shop, they met at a train station in Vancouver and walked to a coffee shop together. And this was a good thing since there was a miscommunication about which coffee shop they were each referring to! Imagine if they missed each other, and their love story never happened!
How He Proposed
Kam proposed to Christine during a winter weekend getaway to Whistler, BC. Christine knew the proposal was coming, even though Kam had tried to throw her off the scent. However, even when she returned from lunch to roses and chocolate covered strawberries, and he went down on one knee, she immediately dissolved into a puddle of tears.
Why a Destination Wedding in Playa del Carmen?
Kam’s family is Punjabi, from Canada, while Christine’s family is Danish. Being a mixed couple, both ethnically and geographically, a destination wedding seemed the best compromise for families who needed to travel.
Their Sandos Caracol wedding allowed the bride and groom to blend their family traditions and gave both sides the time to get to know each other better while on a shared vacation. The Riviera Maya sits in between their two countries and they were drawn to its beautiful nature and history.
Her Beach Wedding Dress
Christine chose two wedding dresses for the beach to represent both cultures; a traditional white, Danish-style dress purchased from Denmark, and after the wedding ceremony, she changed into a traditional Indian dress from India. What a lucky bride to wear two different wedding dresses!
Their Favorite Wedding Day Moment
The bride and groom agree that their favorite moment was the first look because having that moment to themselves before everything really started was so special. Christine did not feel that it took away from her moment of walking down the aisle at all. Instead, it was the best part of the day.
The bride’s advice
What advice does Christine offer to couples getting married on the beach?
Choose what you care about. Being a mixed wedding, we both had to think about what traditions we liked and wanted from each background rather than what was the tradition.
Christine and Kam, it has been so fun sharing this adventure with you, and we wish you every happiness in your next chapter together as husband and wife. We hope to see you again very soon! Congratulations!
