katelyn & andrew – grand palladium resort

Katelyn & Andrew are Fun In The Sun Weddings’ newest Newlyweds! This bride and groom have already been friends almost their entire lives. And now they have committed to being best friends for the rest of them.

Here is their story…

Katelyn and Andrew are from a small, rural community where everybody knows everybody, and you grow up being friends with everybody in your class. They met when they were only 10 years old, and were in the same circle of friends until the end of high school. After graduation, they lost touch for a few years, until one night when they were 21, Andrew popped by Katelyn’s home on his snowmobile to catch up. He was taken by surprise at how his feelings for his friend had suddenly changed, and couldn’t get her out of his mind after that. He pursued her relentlessly for months until she finally conceded. And the rest is history!

When Andrew was ready to propose years later, he took Katelyn on a camping trip to a lake that has held special meaning for her family for generations, under the guise of celebrating the completion of her Masters degree. Mother Nature tried to complicate things for him by throwing a thunder storm their way, but Andrew persevered, and after eating hot dogs in the car for dinner, he managed to talk a wet and cranky Katelyn into a rainy hike up to a lookout point in her only dry sweater. As soon as he popped the question, the skies cleared, the sun came out, and they enjoyed a beautiful evening sipping wine and planning their future together. They might be able to thank Andrew’s grandpa for this because even though Andrew hadn’t planned it that way, he ended up proposing on what would have been his grandfather’s birthday.

The bride and groom decided that a destination wedding in the Riviera Maya was their style because they needed to have their wedding during the winter months, but were not excited about the idea of a winter wedding. It seemed fitting that they should get married where they took their first vacation together.

Katelyn’s approach to shopping for beach wedding dresses was based on a 10 point scale system. Points were given according to how many tacos she would be able to eat during the five days of vacation leading up to her wedding day and still be able to squeeze into the dress. How awesome is that? In the end, however, she ended up picking the fitted dress that made her cry.

Their wedding theme was antique beach glam. Katelyn chose colors in dusty rose and wore her grandmother’s pearls as a compliment to the vintage feel of the lace in her beach wedding dress. They also used a Polaroid camera for their guest book, getting photos and comments from everyone who attended their destination wedding.

Their wedding day exceeded their expectations, mainly because they just relaxed and enjoyed the experience. Kathryn says that she actually took people’s advice and savored every moment from her wedding day, believing that it really would go by so fast. She attributes her carefree attitude to the fact that a destination wedding is so stress-free, and she could simply enjoy her time with family and friends, knowing that everything was being taken care of for her by her coordinator Elsa at one of our favorite wedding resorts, The Grand Palladium. The bride’s advice?

If you want a stress-free, laid-back wedding, then you should consider a destination wedding.
