Kayla and John are Fun In The Sun Weddings’ newest newlyweds! A destination wedding in Mexico was not the original plan for this bride and groom, but they learned just to let go of expectations and go with the flow.

How They Met
Kayla and John met at a party in college through mutual friends…who would later attend their beach wedding in Akumal!
How He Proposed
Our bride and groom live in Massachusetts and they love the beach in all seasons.
On New Year’s Eve, John had plans of going into Boston and proposing that night but the weather was -20 F degrees. So instead, he took her to the beach the next day, completely bundled up. With the beach to themselves on that chilly New Years Day, he popped the question.
Why a Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya
The bride and groom had visited Akumal in the Riviera Maya, two years prior to their beach wedding and loved everything about it; laid back, relaxed, and beautiful.
They had never considered a destination wedding, but when all of the wedding venues close to home kept falling through, they decided not to fight it, and explore getting married on the beach in Mexico. This ultimately ended up being more their style anyway.
The Wedding Venue
Kayla and John got married at La Buena Vida Beach Club in Akumal. They chose it so that they could celebrate in a laid back and fun environment with their wedding guests.
Unfortunately, the Sargasso that was plaguing the entire Caribbean was in full force on their wedding day, They did not picture this as a backdrop to their beach wedding, but true to their style, they decided not to let it ruin their day and continued to just go with the flow.
The Wedding Details
The stunning florals in the wedding arch and the bouquets were the creations of our friends at Cherry Blossom Mexico.
Kayla & John do not like cake, so instead, they had a homemade ice cream bar from Turtle Bay Bakery in Akumal, and a cake piñata to smash with their guests!
Their Favorite Wedding Day Moment
Kayla’s brother-in-law played the saxophone for their first dance, and that was undoubtedly their favorite moment of the day.
The Bride’s Advice
Being a bride who never pictured herself getting married on a beach covered in seaweed, Kayla offers this advice to those getting married on the beach:
Just let go of your expectations, have fun, and soak up every single minute. It will all be perfect no matter what.
