Marlene and Mathew were married on a stormy day at The Paradisus Playa del Carmen, amidst a flurry of small wedding day hiccups. But they were not bothered! The bride tells us,
“I found the most perfect man I could have ever dreamed of meeting. He is my angel. A true partner in life in every sense of the word. This was all I needed. Everything else was a minor detail.”
Here is their story…
Mathew’s sister gets full credit for successfully setting up this happy couple! She wanted Marlene to meet her brother, to which Marlene thought ‘SURE everyone thinks their brother is cool’ and said NO. But, then she played to her business side and referred Mathew to her as a ‘client’ in order to transfer his mortgage over. Marlene expected to make a little money and send him packing. However, he was so handsome and funny that she could not help but be curious. A few weeks later she text him to break the ice and he took full advantage! He had her rolling in laughter over text so she could not resist saying yes when he asked her to dinner. From their first date there was something undeniably different there.
Marlene says that Mathew had been acting weird on the day of their proposal. It was New Year’s Eve and they were headed to a friend’s house for a party. Mathew was playing “host” which was odd as it wasn’t their home. He bought food, started cooking upon arrival and was mixing drinks for everyone. She dismissed his behavior because Mathew is an extremely caring and loyal guy, so maybe this was just the nature of their friendship. HA!
“Later that night he gathered everyone together for one of his infamous group selfies. Everyone had their Cameras out and right then in the middle of it all he pulled me in front of the group he got down on one knee and proposed. On my very favorite night of the year he made me the happiest woman alive”
About an hour after they got engaged, Mathew told everyone at the party to take off the first week in November because they were getting married in Playa del Carmen. They had talked about getting married before and knew that when the day came a destination wedding was for them.
Marlene tells us about the day she found her wedding dress,
“I tried it on and the dress made me cry. The reality that I was going to be married to the most perfect man amidst all our closest family and friends finally hit. In that moment I truly felt like a Bride!”
Every bride’s biggest fear if she plans to get married on the beach is a rainy wedding day! This fear became Marlene’s reality. Half an hour before the ceremony was to start her coordinator advised they would need to move locations. At that moment the rain stopped and Marlene decided to risk it.
“I came to Mexico to get married on a beach.”
And… by some sort of grace the rain stopped long enough for them to get through the ceremony and a number of pictures before the down pour re-started. If rain is lucky on your wedding day, a thunderstorm must be exceptional!
To the average onlooker, you wouldn’t know anything had gone awry that day. However, in the groomsmen suite, chaos ensued. Marlene was blissfully unaware at the time, but they had a series of wardrobe malfunctions with the men. One groomsman forgot his belt. The second had gained weight so he didn’t fit into his suit and they had to safety pin his pants closed. The third forgot his pants all together!
In spite of the rain and the wardrobe malfunctions, their wedding day was a smashing success!
“All we wanted was a happy, fun, relaxed vacation for all our guests. A light, romantic, loving theme.”
Marlene and Mathew, we wish you all the best as you set off on this great new adventure together! Thank you so much for allowing us to share in your special day!
