Meghann and Eric are Fun In The Sun Weddings’ newest newlyweds! Theirs was an intimate elopement destination wedding, shared with only their very nearest and dearest, complete with plenty of authentic Mexican details.
Here is their story…
How they met
The bride and groom met online first, and later face-to-face at a bar called “Moose Head” in Olmsted Falls, the small town where they now live together as husband and wife.
How he proposed
Eric’s surprise proposal came on the anniversary of Meghann’s late grandparents’ wedding anniversary, the significance they actually didn’t know at the time! He took her out for a romantic dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant, followed by a stroll through local park trails. There he proposed on a bridge in the moonlight.
Why a destination wedding in Riviera Maya
The bride had always dreamed of a beach wedding. Eric loved the idea and it became his dream wedding as well. On a friend’s recommendation who had recently spent her honeymoon at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, they decided it would be the perfect destination wedding venue for their intimate elopement with eleven guests.
The bride’s beach wedding dress
Meghann made several attempts at finding the perfect beach wedding dress, with no luck before deciding to visit to BHLDN in Chicago with her Mom. The store had so many styles to fit the exact vision she had in mind, and so that is where she said YES! to the dress.
The wedding day details
The bride envisioned a muted coral color palette to pop against the blue ocean. She wanted her flowers to contrast with the Caribbean, yet not be overly bright. She was scared of her bouquet when her Secrets Akumal wedding coordinator handed it to her, but now realizes that they knew what they were doing, and they nailed it!
Our happy couple incorporated touches of Mexico, including personalized maracas from Decor and Gifts with their names so guests would have something fun to remember the reception.
Their wedding guests all received a fun welcome bag tote filled with a custom beach towel, waterproof camera, and a beach wedding emergency kit, topped with a thank you card that resembled a Mexican party decoration.
In hindsight, their polaroid guest book was not the best-executed idea. Meghann says she forgot to remind everyone to sign and take a photo, and so even though there were only eleven guests, many are missing from the guest book! They also tied plantable seeds with instructions to each wedding favor, but don’t think anyone noticed!
The favorite wedding day moments
The bride and groom have so many favorite moments, but top of the list would be the cake smashing and the authentic mariachi band.
The bride’s advice
What nuggets of advice does Meghann have for the bride-to-be getting married on the beach?
I would have gotten a video guy if we could have afforded it. I didn’t get to enjoy the steel drums at all! Everything goes by so fast…
She also reminds you to take a deep breath and let the day happen the way it is meant to happen. ENJOY IT. You deserve to after all you have done to make it so perfect.
