nikki & matthew – playa del carmen wedding

Nikki and Matthew are Fun In The Sun Weddings newest Newlyweds! This Frugal Duo’s love story began like so many of today’s great romances do (yours truly included!): In a bar. Introduced by friends, they fit together instantly, bonded for life by PBR and Jameson.

Here is their story….

When it came time to tie the knot, Nikki and Matt knew they wanted a destination wedding in the Caribbean. They found Playa del Carmen, Mexico to be a grand slam, offering an affordable mix of culture and excitement for their lively group to share a holiday.

After choosing to be married in the month of May because that was most convenient for their guests, Nikki and Matt chose to have their wedding mid week because that was most convenient for their bank account. The Bride proudly reports,

“We saved like four hundred bucks having a Wednesday wedding in Mexico! Who gets married on a Wednesday? Ummm, WE do!”

A helpful budget saving tip if you are still choosing a wedding date!

The Catholic Bride and Groom were wed at the Nuestra Senora del Carmen Catholic Church on Playa del Carmen’s legendary 5th Avenue.

“The church is right on the beach, where else can you get scenery like that?”

You would never know that this spunky bride had been suffering from a respiratory infection that day. Go figure – a nurse gets sick right before her wedding! But Nikki wasn’t prepared to let anything get her down.

“I just wanted to get to the altar, and marry Matt!”

Stuffy chest and all, Nikki tells us that she still felt like Cinderella in her wedding dress and custom veil from the magical April Rose Boutique, in Guilford, CT. The Bride and Groom chose a Mexican ‘surf, sand and sun’ theme for their wedding colors, focusing mainly on Nikki’s favorite combination of blue with yellow.

The wedding reception was held at The Gran Porto Real Hotel, right in the heart of Playa del Carmen. There they achieved the fun, chill (yet totally crazy!) party on the beach they had hoped their reception would be. It was most important to the Bride and Groom that their guests could let loose and relax, and when Uncle Frank, who NEVER dances at weddings, got up to get his groove on, they knew they had scored a homerun!

Congratulations Nikki & Matthew! You were such fun to work with, and we wish you all the best in this next chapter of your lives together! We will see you on your 10th anniversary to do it all over again…
