Rebecca and James are Fun In The Sun Weddings’ newest newlyweds! With wedding guests from across North America, this destination wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres completely exceeded their expectations.
Here is their story…
How They Met
Our Bride and Groom met in college. Rebecca frequented the fine dining restaurant where James was sous chef. In their small town they continued to bump into each other and eventually became friends.
On their first date, James made Rebecca her favorite meal, complete with great wine. Who doesn’t love a man who can cook?
How They Got Engaged
On a return trip home to Texas, Rebecca and James were set to have family dinner at her Grandfather’s house, a very special place for our Bride. She arrived that evening to rose pedals scattered on the floor, balloons, flowers, and our Groom down on one knee in the living room! Speechless as she realized her entire family and best friend were there, she managed to finally get out a ‘Yes!’. For Rebecca, it was a perfect moment.
Why a Destination Wedding in Cancun
The Father-of-the-Bride is from Central Mexico and so Rebecca’s family would visit the Cancun area when she was growing up. What better way than to have their guests gather in a familiar tropical location for a vacation to help them celebrate!
The Wedding Details
As she is not the Pinterest-type, Rebecca just knew she wanted soft, tropical beach colors to compliment the backdrop at Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort. It was important that she have the Bird of Paradise flower as a memory of her Grandmother, and her florist featured the bloom in the bridal bouquet, boutonniere and floral arrangement over the wedding gazebo.
Rebecca’s beach wedding dress was a beautiful Hayley Paige design from Maggie Louise Bridal in Memphis.
Their Favorite Weddng Day Moment
The Bride admits it is hard to choose one moment, but a highlight was when they turned to their wedding guests at the end of the ceremony and saw everyone there to share the biggest moment of their lives!

What advice does Rebecca have for couples planning a destination wedding?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! No one can do it all, and you would be surprised how many people truly want to help you to take something off your plate to help you focus better.
