Sabrina and Matt are Fun In the Sun Weddings’ newest newlyweds! The groom was patient, understood “No” to mean “Not right now”, and finally wiggled his way into the bride’s heart through her love of sports.
Here is their story…
Sabrina and Matt met in high school through friends and bumped into each other during their college years at parties and summer breaks. Matt asked Sabrina out several times throughout the years, but she never thought he was serious because of the party atmosphere.
Matt saw his opportunity when the Rangers were in the playoffs, and knowing that Sabrina is a huge hockey fan, he asked if she wanted to catch the next game together. They had their first date in a bar watching the game, but Sabrina still was only thinking friendship.
Then Matt played his ace. He told Sabrina that he had two tickets to the next game, and asked her to come. They met for drinks in the city beforehand, and even though the Rangers lost that night, Sabrina said she went home knowing that she would marry Matt. Finally, a win for Matt!
The bride and groom got engaged in a dark, romantic steakhouse, in front of the fireplace. Matt asked the waitress to take a photo of them (who was in on it) and then he dropped down on his knee and asked Sabrina to marry him.
Their decision to get married on the beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico, was made because they had attended so many traditional at home weddings together that they thought “Hey, why not?”
Sabrina was married in her dream Hayley Paige beach wedding dress, and she had her recently deceased grandfather’s tie looped around her bouquet so she could have him near her. She says her favorite moments were seeing all of her friends and family seated at the ceremony with love in their eyes, and also busting out dance moves with everyone at the wedding reception.
Her advice for the brides-to-be planning a destination wedding?
Planning shouldn’t be stressful. In the end, you won’t remember which chargers go with which table cloth. You will remember the times where you couldn’t breathe because you were laughing so hard with family and friends, the inside jokes made during the week, and how you felt when you walked down the aisle. If you keep that in mind you are golden.
Sabrina and Matt, it has been such an honor to share this special moment in your lives. We wish you nothing but happiness in your marriage…and just agree to disagree on Giants versus Patriots. Congratulations!
