Getting married on the beach?
There are definitely right, and wrong, types of beach wedding dresses a bride should look for. We have watched brides suffer, struggle, sweat and swear their way through their wedding day because they made the wrong choice.
Luckily, we are here to help steer you in the right direction. Here are the four types of wedding dresses that are perfect for a beach ceremony.
1. A bride’s comfort is key
Here in the Riviera Maya, it gets next level HOT on most days of the year. Sure a big Cinderella gown might look Vogue-worthy against a Caribbean backdrop, but you’re guaranteed to be in misery from the moment you set foot out outside. This is your wedding day, and you should NOT have to suffer through it!
Choose a dress cut that is simple, gives you room to move, and allows your skin to breathe. Less is more. Think sexy. This is a perfect environment for a wedding dress that shows a little (or a lot!) of skin, and that caresses your body instead of clinging to it.
2. Keep your cool in a wedding dress
Newsflash: You are going to feel a little extra stress on your wedding day! Even good stress will make your body temperature rise. Mix in some heat and humidity, and well, you are just a swampy bride waiting to happen! Do yourself a favor and steer clear of dresses made from synthetic fibers because they not breathe well, and will make a sweaty situation even worse.
Unless you are comfortable saying ‘I Do’ in a white bikini (not a totally terrible idea!) then we agree with The Knot’s beach wedding dress tip make sure you wrap yourself in natural fibers when you get married on the beach. Think silk, cotton, linen, and certain chiffons. All are lightweight, breezy, and will help you keep your cool.

3. Avoid delicate wedding dress details
Yes, lace is elegant and beadwork is beautiful. But they are best left OFF of a beach wedding dress.
Why?
Lace is an absolute magnet for sand and debris. Sand will get stuck everywhere in your dress, and a lacy train will drive you especially nuts because you will be wrestling out dry seaweed, tiny shells, and garbage. Also, both the lace and beadwork can snag on anything that Mother Nature throws at you: roots, foliage, flowers, trees.
4. Fun is fine for beach brides
What better opportunity to be a little playful with your wedding look than within the informal setting of a beach?
- Maybe you are the kind of bride who wants to add a splash of vibrant color, like a sash, or just forgo that traditional white wedding dress altogether and make a bold, colorful statement?
- Perhaps you want to show off those tanned, toned gams in a sexy, detachable cocktail length dress like this?
